maker: magic, mischief, mistakes

Alters In The 5th District, 2020 | Alters Collective / Altered Conspiracies

When we carve out and hold space for each other, our spines crack and our voice escapes into el universo que siempre ha conocido nuestro nombre. To learn about our ancestors. To learn our forgotten language. To recognize the souls that live through our blood. Finally, we are heard.

Alters In The 5th District

Alters is an interdisciplinary ritual between specter and flesh, rites/rights, and ritual. It seeks to investigate the possibilities and costs of being and becoming through unearthing ancestral inheritance, experience, and memory.

Alters is a nonlinear fleshing across dimensions we never had maps to discover before.

On this journey between the absolute and ether, we begin to touch our truths and try to find ways to honor joys and acknowledge traumas inherited and experienced.

Alters, in many ways, is an attempt at self-subjugation and self-liberation from the colonial cis-het-patriarchial narrative, from the literal and metaphorical boxes. This work is the complication of that which lives in the space of convention, confinement, and normative rules. We aim to disrupt the internal status quo, incite honest conversation, and cultivate connection with ourselves and each other.
